Making Bio Diesel
The main problem in car costs is fuel. Today gas prices are rising very fast and people are always searching for the best option for saving money on gas, but now a new product has been discovered.Bio-diesel is made from vegetable oil and is reacting very much like diesel fuel.
Before you get started in the home making process of bio-diesel you should consider first your safety. It is not a simple process and it can take hours or days until you are finished, and it depends mostly on the quality of the vegetable oil that you use and the air humidity
The equipment you need is a blender, plastic containers with metric measures, funnels, bottles, tape and a thermometer. All equipment must be dried and clean. For ingredients you will need vegetable oil (used or fresh), lye, methanol, isopropyl alcohol, a 1mililiter dropper and a PH paper for acidity test. First you will need to measure 200 milliliters of antifreeze and put it in a half litter bottle through a funnel, then mix it in the lye.
Be aware that the composition may react with the water from air and it will mess your reaction if you mix it too slowly. The ingredients can be mixed by shaking the bottle very quick until they react by getting warm. You will obtain sodium hydroxide when the lye will be dissolved into the antifreeze. On the vegetable oil drop one milliliter at a time of sodium hydroxide. You should check the Ph after every drop until it reaches to 8.
After you finished the mixture using a funnel pour it into a 2 liter bottle and close it good, and leave it for at least 6 hours to settle. When the mixture settles you should see a dark layer, which is glycerine, at the bottom of the bottle which is separated from the top of the bottle by a pale liquid and that is bio-diesel.
Very carefully remove the bio-diesel and put it in a clean bottle. Make one holes in the corner of two bottles and add half liter of water on the bio-diesel component. After that roll the bottle in your hands until there is a homogenous mixture drain the water from the bottle. Using bio-diesel not only that saves your fuel money but it protects the environment too.
