Both the gas engine and the electric motor combo can power the wheels alternately or together, depending on road conditions.
The third HEV mode is called the split mode. Although not used in this particular Honda hybrid car, it is summarized here. The gas engine powers one axle and the electric motor powers the other axle. There is no direct connection between the gas and electric power plants.
The Insight Honda hybrid car is rated as high as 68 miles per gallon. A manual transmission or a continuously variable automatic transmission is available on this Honda hybrid car model. This Honda hybrid car saves gas by stopping the engine during idling, and with a strong yet lightweight aluminum body.
The operation of this particular Honda hybrid car is transparent. The owner simply adds unleaded gasoline. Onboard computers and sensors tell the Insight Honda hybrid car when to use the gas, electric, or gas power plants. The batteries of this Honda hybrid car are charged by the gas engine, or when the brakes are applied.
The Insight has some of the lowest pollution emissions of the Honda hybrid car line, or of any hybrid model. Considering the fuel efficiency, performance, and features, this Honda hybrid car should be at the top of your hybrid car buying list.
